Effective 13 August 2026. How Caturday (iOS app + widget) sources, curates, and displays third-party photo content, and how removal requests are handled. For end-user data, see the Privacy Policy.

1. Content source

  • The default source is public posts on mastodon.social, ingested from the hashtags #cat, #caturday, and #catsofmastodon. Followers-only, unlisted, and direct posts are never ingested.
  • A Caturday Pro user may instead pick one local Photo Library album. That album is processed on the device only and is never uploaded or shared.

2. Curation

Before a photo joins the shared cache, an on-device vision step confirms it really shows a cat, and near-duplicates are grouped and filtered out. Posts that do not pass stay in the curation tool and are never published.

3. Attribution

Both the app and the widget offer a direct link to the original Mastodon post for the photo on screen. This is the primary attribution mechanism and the primary way a rights holder can identify their own content.

Photo Library images have no attribution or external-post action; they never leave the device.

4. Copying vs. linking

Mastodon images are copied into the shared cache rather than hotlinked, so the app and widget can display them reliably, including offline.

5. Retention

Photos are not kept indefinitely. The shared cache holds a limited number of photos (currently 100); as new ones are ingested, the oldest are deleted, so a photo is typically gone again within days.

6. Removal / takedown

To request removal of your photo, contact Oliver Michalak (werk01) — [email protected] with a link to the original Mastodon post, or enough detail to identify the photo. Target response time: 5 business days. Removal deletes the photo's record from the shared cache, which propagates to all users on their next sync.

Current limitations: there is no self-serve report feature in the app or widget, and deletion of a source post is not detected automatically.

7. Scope

This policy covers the current two-source, cats-only configuration. Adding sources, instances, or content categories requires revisiting it first.
